How We Can Help
Disabled Parents?

The Social Model of Disability

Enabled2Parent adopts the Social Model of Disability. This means we look beyond individual impairments and instead focus on removing barriers in society. We're advocates for accessibility, working alongside parents, professionals, and local services across England and Wales.

Our approach promotes empowerment, ensuring disabled parents can make informed decisions and access the support for parents with disabilities they need. By offering practical help for disabled parents across England and Wales, accessible communication, and inclusive community networks, we foster confidence, independence, and dignity in every family we support.

What Legal Support Is in Place for Disabled Parents?

Breaking the Stigma

Despite nearly 15% of parents in the UK living with disabilities, stigma and misunderstanding remain significant obstacles. Many fear that without a thorough assessment of their situation, they could risk losing custody of their children. Enabled2Parent champions legal rights and promotes awareness of vital frameworks, such as the Fair Access to Care Services (FACS) and the Children Act 1989.

These provide protections and affirm disabled parents' rights, ensuring they receive parenting support services tailored to their unique circumstances. Our commitment is to move from reactive support towards proactive, early intervention.

How Can Young Carers Provide Support to
Disabled Parents

Addressing the Needs of Young Carers

Children who take on caring roles for disabled parents need support themselves. Enabled2Parent recognises the demands placed on young carers, acknowledging legislation such as the Carers (Recognition and Services) Act 1995 and the Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000. These laws ensure that young carers get access to education, wellbeing opportunities, and help for disabled mums and dads that respect family roles.

We link families to disability parenting resources and community groups to reduce isolation, build resilience, and ensure that children and parents can thrive together.
